In summer 2018 Studio 24-7 teamed up with Snowdonia Vans and hit the road in North Wales, making a short film showcasing exactly why road tripping in a camper-van is the best way to travel! You don’t always have to jump on a plane and travel to the other side of the world to have a grand adventure. Sometimes, it’s right on your doorstep.
Pre-production is the most important part of any project. We put in the hours fleshing out the message we wanted to convey using storyboards and location scouting. The ‘problem’ with North Wales is that it’s full of so many epic locations! We had to be ruthless in narrowing down the shot list and ensure that everything contributed toward the overall story.
Due to the nature of the trip, a run-and-gun set-up was required. This meant travelling light, with cameras rolling pretty much the whole time. On a trip like this you never know when the next best shot is going to come up. Alongside that, we also had to battle with the elements. Weather is something you can’t control so rather than seeing it as the enemy we embraced the mood and atmosphere, using it to our advantage.
Being in charge of the project end-to-end ensures that the clients vision isn’t lost in communication. Editing is arguably the most important part of any project. With so much footage to work through we were able to hand-pick the best shots and moments to craft a story that really conveyed the message we were looking for – you don’t have to travel to the other side of the world for an epic adventure!
The video went live across Snowdonia Vans social media, proving to be a huge success with over 31,000 views on Facebook alone. This exposure helped boost sales and bring in new customers, having the exact impact and effect we were aiming for. It also proved another important thing – online video doesn’t have to be short form. Longer pieces of content perform just as well and if done right, they’re much more immersive and engaging. We hope to take another van out soon!
